Strengthened Political Engagement

Strengthen our constituency’s capacity to engage in strategic political spaces and processes in order to inform and influence.

Under this strategic pillar, IYWD seeks to achieve the following:

  • IYWD is committed to building relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. Since inception in 2009 IYWD has managed to successfully forge strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders in Mashonaland Central.
  • IYWD will continously reach out to young women and girls encouraging and engaging them on their constitutional rights, locate their voice in traditional leadership system by being peace advocates for enhanced political participation of young women and girls in democratic process at local and national levels
  • Share knowledge with young women on social accountability in order to advocate for improved social service delivery, water, health and road infrastructure in their communities. The flagship of our work is the pro-active and informed participation of young women and girls’ in local authorities’ governance processes including full council meetings, strategy planning processes, budgeting and Provincial Development Committees among others for gender responsive social service delivery.
  • Facilitate the establishment of organic community structures like peace committees ad Ward Dariro Committees to play an active role in mobilizing and advocating for young women’s participation in decision-making processes,
  • Facilitate Transformational Leadership Trainings aimed at activating young womens agency to participate in decision making and transform their communities.
  • Mobilising and registering a movement of young women (target 1 million) who are conscious of and practicing their political responsibilities to resist, disrupt and defend their voice and power in decision making in their families, communities and national processes
  • Successfully lobbying for young women to play para-legal roles in traditional courts and contribute towards conflicts resolutions and peace processes for young women’s effective participation in public and political spaces
